NEW “TRADITION” FOR DISABLED GOLFERS
As disabled golfers we are about to create a new tradition where a cherished car number plate becomes a golf “trophy” !?
The HandiGolf Foundation has been promoting Golf for permanent wheelchair users competitors since 1988. In 1990 the founding Chairman ( Dr Andrew Greasley ) purchased the DVLA number H 6OLF to be used on the National Charity’s principal vehicle.
However this vehicle never prevailed as it became clear that independence of travel for individual disabled players became very important. For example, by 2020 GB & NI disabled players were making their own way to the European Disabled GolF Championships in Czechoslovakia and Majorca.
So the desireable number plate is to become the “personal plate” of the current Chairman of the registered Charity and will be handed over into perpetuity. The new recipient is the 2022 England Golf ” Diversity and Access” Champion who as a Wheelchair Golfer became the first Paraplegic golfer to become a Golf Club Captain in the world. ( Terry Kirby Tapton Park GC Chesterfield ).
Massive thank you to Andy for his kind donation and continued support.
