Tapton Park Golf Club in Chesterfield has been supporting the Handigolf Foundation, a UK based charity which supports golfers with physical standing disabilities. Tapton’s three Golf Captains (Peter Bamford, Men’s Captain; Caroline Holland, Ladies’ Captain; Richard Stephen, Seniors’ Captain) have been raising funds to buy a new purpose-built electric golf buggy for use by wheelchair golfers. The buggies allow physically disabled golfers to play from a seated position.
The new buggy was presented by the three Captains to Terry Kirby, the Chairman of the Handigolf Foundation and an international wheelchair golfer himself. When not travelling round Europe, Terry plays his golf at Tapton Park and he is currently the Men’s Vice Captain. In 2019 Terry will take over the Captaincy of Tapton Park Golf Club and will become the first wheelchair golfer to be Captain of a UK golf club.
Peter Bamford, the current Men’s Captain, commented:
“The three Captains of Tapton Park Golf Club are delighted to have achieved our target of supporting the Handigolf Foundation and providing a new, specially designed buggy for use by a wheelchair golfer. Throughout the year we have held a variety of charity golf events to raise funds and we are very grateful to all Tapton Park members for their support and generosity.”
Terry Kirby, Chairman of The Handigolf Foundation, “ We are a small charity but we supply buggies to people with standing disabilities to enable them to enjoy golf. We are so grateful to Tapton Parks Captains and members for raising the much needed funds we need to carry on.”
